Michele Kahn, Esq.
Michele Kahn is a well-known and respected attorney who solves real life problems and works tirelessly to achieve the best possible results for her clients. Within her general practice, Michele handles a wide variety of matters, including business litigations; real estate transactions, from single apartment closings to the sale and purchase of buildings; contracts, including LLC operating agreements, employment contracts, and loan agreements; family law, including contested and uncontested divorce matters and breakups between unmarried partners, prenuptial, postnuptial and co-habitation agreements, and second parent adoptions.
The breadth of Michele’s knowledge of various areas of law within her general practice is evidenced by her recognition as a Super Lawyertm in both family law and in business litigation.
Because of the varied nature of her practice, Michele considers herself to be “a small town lawyer in the big city”, meaning that she can effectively represent her clients in a broad variety of legal matters, and she frequently serves as “the corporate attorney” or “the family attorney”. Michele believes that her role is to be a true counsellor at law — to advise and work with the client by thinking not only about legal rights and remedies, but also about other factors such as emotional toll, strategic advantages, and alternative ways to arrive at the desired outcome.
Michele has numerous reported decisions, and has tried over twenty five cases to verdict. She has been quoted frequently in The New York Times, The Associated Press, and The New York Law Journal. Michele is a sought after speaker and has presented continuing legal education and other panels on divorce, LGBTQ family law, wills and trusts, and how to start a law practice for the New York State Bar Association, New York City Bar Association, the Manhattan JCC and other organizations.
Michele has been a member of the House of Delegates of the American Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association, and is a long time member of both Associations. She served as the first chairperson of the New York State Bar Association Committee on LGBT People and the Law, which is now a Section, and Michele is the recipient of the inaugural Vanguard Award from the Section. Michele is a past president of LeGaL and is a recipient of LeGaL’s Community Vision Award. She served as a member of The Town School Board of Trustees and is currently president of her condominium board of managers.
